Flint's Bishop International Airport Announces an Airside Terminal Expansion and Renovation

April 26, 2010

(Flint, Michigan) Bishop International Airport Authority is pleased to announce that the Board has awarded the Terminal Expansion and Renovation project to locally owned Sorensen-Gross. They were the low bidder for the project, coming in at $2,226,000. The project will begin on May 10th, and should be completed by Thanksgiving of this year.

Airport Director, Jim Rice stated "I am happy to see that Sorensen-Gross was awarded the project. They are a first-rate organization, and built our original terminal, as well as some of the expansions. Fortunately for all of us, we have a high quality low-bidder taking the reins on this task."

The project includes a beautiful make-over for the entire center hold area on the air-side portion of the terminal. These improvements will make flying from flint even more convenient for our passengers, as we upgrade to better accommodate their needs. The plan calls for Paradies Metro-Ventures to add an amazing CNBC themed store. It will feature a wide variety of sundries, from food to gifts, magazines, books and the like - replacing the current free-standing shop across from Gate 3.

MSE Branded Foods will have a full-service grill added to its offerings. Passengers will be able to enjoy a wonderful meal air-side, while they wait for their flight - or grab something hot to take along on the plane. Topping it all off, MSE will also be expanded to include a Samuel Adams themed bar which will be right up against the terminal windows. The view will be amazing! Inside the bar, there will be televisions as well as flight monitors. It will be the most convenient spot in the hold area to watch the game and your gate at the same time.

Throughout the concourse and in the Business Center there will be additional electrical outlets and seating so that our passengers can "power-up" their devices before they head for the skies.

The renovations call for the Sloan Museum car display to be relocated land-side, right in front of the police station, where more of our visitors will be able to enjoy it. This process is already underway.

Additionally, the John Bean Technologies Corporation - JBT AeroTech, Jetway Systems was awarded a $1,700,375 contract to replace aging jet bridges 1 and 2 - which are original to the building. They will also add an additional jet bridge between gates 5 and 6, bringing the terminal's total to 7 jet bridges and 4 lower level gates.
